House party

Before the big event
they put on their faces,
just like you. Shingle
by shingle, powder
by rouge. Old stony facades
languish in rubble
while new woodskins
are built. Flowers accent
dormer windows, minimize
creeping veins. Touch-up jobs
cover freckled spackle, and oh
the perfect spired hats.

Everyone's getting ready
for the Albemarle disco
where night plays
the bouncer, lets
the revelers in or is it
the party out. Soon
dormers flicker in strobe
and shutters sway.
Thunder drops the beats
suddenly
everyone can dance.
